MTSE Graduate Awards

All graduate awards are determined by the departmental award committee based on nominations. Except Alpha Sigma Mu, one awardee is chosen for each category each year.

Nomination deadline: March 1 every year

Outstanding Graduate Award

Eligibility: A MTSE graduate student who graduated in the past fall semester or is going to graduate in the coming spring or summer semester
Nomination: faculty

Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award

  • GPA
  • Serving TA for at least a year
  • Student, instructor feedback
  • Other teaching related activities

Eligibility: all enrolled MTSE graduate students

Alpha Sigma Mu

Alpha Sigma Mu is the international professional and academic honor society for the field of Materials Science and Engineering. Membership into this prestigious society is granted by a board of UN MTSE faculty each semester. Students are selected based upon scholarship, research, and presence within the department.

Eligibility: all enrolled MTSE graduate students

Outstanding Graduate Outreach Award

Students in the MTSE graduate program may nominate individuals for this award. This award is intended for those who dedicate themselves to their program, the university, and their community. Students who are eligible for this award will typically contribute approximately 5 hours or more of community service per semester and are visible on their campus making a positive difference for other students.

Eligibility: all enrolled MTSE graduate students. A student cannot receive more than twice during their study at UNT
Nomination: MTSE Graduate Student Council or similar student organizations

Outstanding Graduate Research Award

Students in the MTSE graduate program may nominate individuals for this award. This award is intended for those who dedicate themselves to their research and have produced reliable research data through sustainable methods. A student who would win this award would typically produce and present posters at conferences and are coauthored in at least one publication per academic year.

Eligibility: all enrolled MTSE graduate students. A student cannot receive more than twice during their study at UNT
Nomination: MTSE Graduate Student Council or similar student organizations

Outstanding Graduate Leadership Award

Students in the MTSE graduate program may nominate individuals for this award. This award is intended for those who dedicate their time towards the improvement of campus and community life through leadership positions. A student who would be granted this award would typically serve in at least one leadership role in a local or university organization. 

Eligibility: all enrolled MTSE graduate students. A student cannot receive more than twice during their study at UNT
